in support of
Thank you to everyone that attended our Adoption Day this past weekend at the Sustainable City Branch of the Star Vet Clinic, we had 8 beautiful pups and we are glad to say that 4 found there forever homes and the other 4 found wonderful foster homes. We will be announcing soon the second of our adoption days, so get them in your calendar as they will be a new monthly day at the clinic. A huge thank you to all the staff that were there on the day and to the wonderful staff at the Stray Dog Center Umm Al Quwain..
A registered, non-profit, an organisation on a mission to help abused, abandoned, neglected and forgotten stray animals in Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) in the United Arab Emirates.
Stray Dogs Center UAQ, formerly known as SOS for Emirates Dogs, was formed out of an urgent need to address the stray animal population in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain. Founded in 2013, Stray Dogs Center UAQ is a non-profit organisation, completely funded by donations and fundraising. Primarily, the main aim of the center is to ensure a safe and healthy community by addressing the stray animal population in a humane way.
At the onset, rescuing and re-homing stray dogs and cats was the priority. However, the extent of the stray animal problem saw a feeding program established in September 2013 to support street, dumpsite, industrial and coastal stray animals including Donkeys, Camels and Cows. Four safe houses were set-up and foster sought whenever possible to manage the every increasing rescue efforts.
A bold move was made in March 2014, to open a "No-kill" private shelter. This move gave the Center the ability to rescue a larger number of animals than was possible beforehand. From 2013 to 2016 over 900 animals including, dogs, cats, birds and a donkey have been rescued and 783 animals have been re-homed.
Active lobbying of the Umm Al Quwain Government began in February 2014 and collaboration with the Police, Municipality and the Economic Department resulted in Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, the Ruler of Umm Al Quwain granting land to build the Center for Stray Dogs, situated in Al Surrah, Umm Al Quwain, a licence to operate as a non-profit organisation and ongoing Police support in the rescue of animals.
Through Social Media, the Center has gained huge momentum. With no funding, public support plays a pivotal role in the success of the Stray Dogs Center, UAQ. This has enabled the Center to operate and save 100's of lives.
Food donations are also very much appreciated.
Your support in time and services, fuel for our generators etc are also very welcome.
